Myths

Sphinx A myth is something that is simply not true.
It is a lie that is told to me and to you.

Some myths are already thousands of years old,
but some for the first time are just being told.

No matter how many times a myth may be repeated,
it is still a lie and therefore it should be rejected.

A myth does not need to be fancy or original.
If it hides the truth from us then it achieves its goal.

The worst type of myth is a lie we tell to our own self,
to justify our behavior from now until our death.

If anyone among us truly wishes to be wise,
then to his own self he should never, ever tell lies.

Reference Scripture Verses

1 Timothy 1:3-4 - command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths

1 Timothy 4:7-8 - Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 - For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

Proverbs 2:6 - For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 9:10 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

1 Corinthians 1:20-25 - Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

James 3:17 - But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
