Lies

If we are asked about something we've done that is wrong,
the temptation to lie about it is exceedingly strong.
Since punishment is something we would all like to shun,
we sometimes tell lies about the things we have done.
But sooner or later each one of us must realize,
that lying is a Sin in our Heavenly Father's eyes.
Long ago God told us from on top of Mount Sinai,
That we should always tell the truth and never, ever lie.
Three times Peter denied he knew Jesus his Teacher,
but later in life he became a great Christian Preacher.
When each one of us settles this matter in his or her heart,
We put lying behind us and a better life we then start.

Peter, the Liar:
Mark 14:66-72 - While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came by. When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him. "You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus," she said. But he denied it. "I don't know or understand what you're talking about," he said, and went out into the entryway. When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, "This fellow is one of them." Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, "Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean." He began to call down curses on himself, and he swore to them, "I don't know this man you're talking about." Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times." And he broke down and wept.
Peter, the Preacher:
Acts 2:14 - Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
Acts 2:22-24 - "Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.”
Acts 2:38-39 - Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off -- for all whom the Lord our God will call."
Acts 2:41 - Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
Liars will be Punished:
Psalm 34:13 - keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
Proverbs 19:9 - A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish.
John 8:44 - You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Mark 25:41 - Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
Forgiveness:
2 Chronicles 7:14 - if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin
