Federal Pandemic Unemployment Programs Ending

Introduction

I have a small business and my business is incorporated in the State of Georgia, and I pay an assortment of business taxes to the State of Georgia. Therefore on June 9, 2021 the State of Georgia sent me an official notice to let me know that the State of Georgia will stop participating in the "Federal Pandemic Unemployment Programs" effective June 27, 2021.

The official notice contained a lot of legal information. However, four of the sentences in the official notice were the following:

1. "Effective June 26, 2021, the relief for unemployment benefit charging will end regardless of the reason for unemployment."
2. "Individuals that are unemployed more than six (6) consecutive weeks will be considered to be separated and subsequent claims filed will not be processed or paid."
3. "Employers should report job refusals online for employees who refuse to report or return to work or an offer of work."
4. "Beginning June, 27, 2021, individuals requesting unemployment benefits must actively seek work and maintain a record of their work search activities."

I am not a trained legal professional but my general impression of the entire legal notice that I received was that the State of Georgia was going to stop paying people who are not working due to COVID-19, or for any other reason, beginning June 27, 2021.

Discussion

Since April of the year 2020 many businesses in the State of Georgia have had a serious problem trying to hire people to keep their businesses open. One of the reasons was because people could stay at home and receive more money from the government than they would have received in their "net paycheck" if they were working. Therefore many people simply decided to remain unemployed.

Beginning June 27, 2021 in the State of Georgia these "out-of-work" individuals are going to be forced to do one of the following two things:

1. Find a job and start earning a living in order to support themselves and their families.
2. Become criminals and embark on a life of crime to get the money they desire.

I hope that most people will find a job and earn an honest living. In Georgia there are lots of job opportunities but people have to make a personal decision to return to work.

Unfortunately, I suspect that some people will choose the second option above and the crime rate across Georgia, and especially in some specific communities, will begin to significantly increase after June 27, 2021.

If you have a friend of a family member who is currently "unemployed" then you may wish to let them know that beginning on June 27, 2021 there will be a lot of people in the state of Georgia who may actively begin looking for a job and it won't be long before the "best jobs" are taken. Therefore a person who is interested in finding a good job should begin looking immediately so that they can pick a job that they really like. If they wait until "everyone" is looking for work then they may discover that the really good jobs are all gone and they may have to be satisfied with something less than ideal.

For example, in the state of Georgia the restaurant industry has a lot of job openings and they are paying premium wages to new employees. And some restaurants are hiring employees into "manager training" positions. This is just one example of the types of jobs that are now available. However, after June 27, 2021 many of the "best" jobs may be taken so you should encourage your unemployed friend of family member to start looking today.

Conclusion

I do not know how the other states in the USA will phase out of the "Federal Pandemic Unemployment Programs." But I suspect that most states are having employment problems similar to the state of Georgia and they cannot keep paying people to "not work" forever.

Therefore anyone who is currently out-of-work but who is physically capable of doing a job should probably start looking for work today if they desire to find a good job at a good wage.

As I mentioned briefly above, there will also probably be some people who will refuse to work and these people may decide to steal what they desire. Therefore it might be wise to prepare for an increase in the crime rate in your area in the near future, and to take reasonable precautions immediately to protect yourself and your family from harm.

Respectfully,
Grandpappy.
